5 Songs… Jonas Alaska
Tommy James & The Shondells – Crimson And Clover
First heard this song in a skateboard movie (baker 2G) when I was 13. It’s probably my favorite song. I love how clean and simple it is. The way he sings is a sweet mix of cheesy and sincere. Great lyrics and great tremolo madness in the end.
David Bowie – Drive In Saturday
Of all the great Bowie songs, this one is my favorite. Saw a recording of him playing the song on a TV-show, again when I was 13, and it blew my mind. He was dressed like a woman, everything was an act and his voice was just heartbreaking. The great 50’s vibe in the song, super British backing vocals
and weird lyrics.
Bob Dylan – Just Like A Woman
The version he did with George Harrison at the concert for Bangladesh is the best one. He’s trying to do a country style version but the song isn’t really a country song and I love that combination. The way he pics up the rhyme from the end of the verse at the end of the chorus, is so cool.
The Beatles – Martha My Dear
This is the song that made start listening to The Beatles. It took me a while to get into them but my girlfriend showed me this track, and was hooked. I love how they go over to a half time beat in the instrumental verse. I also love the fact that the song is about Pauls dog. Can’t believe this is a record from 1967.
Nirvana – Dumb
This is a great song. I think I like the „MTV unplugged“-version more than the „In Utero“ one. Both are great. Great lyrics, Kurts voice is so genuine and tired.
